When cooking and preparing different types of foods there are many ways to keep the food safe and you as well.There are four steps in keeping the foods  safe.Step one is something everyone should do wash your hands with warm water and soap , germs are are on your hands and you don't want to touch the foods.If you’re going to cook any fresh fruit or vegetable make sure you wash it off first pesticides will cause you  to get sick. Step two is if you are cooking any raw meats, poultry,seafood, and eggs to keep them away from one another but also from ready to eat foods.You dont want to cross contaminate any foods.Step three is while you are cooking the raw meats, poultry,seafood and eggsto make sure to cook and the right temperature.Here are some tempertures you need to know, Ground beef ( pork,beef,lamb) 160 F,Fresh beef 145F,Poultry 165F, Eggs cook until yolk and white are firm, and Fish 145F. The fourth step is to Chill the food.Bacteria in any food can double in 20 mins. so make sure to refrigerate the food quickly.Cold temperatures keep bacteria from growing and you don't want to end up sick. Also a reminder to wash everything before use counters, pans, and utensils.Happy Cooking!

What is  mise-en-place?




 Mise-en-place is more noticed in a kitchen at restaurants then you at home cooking dinner. Focus is key to mise-en-place , have focus on everything you're doing."It really is a way of life ... it's a way of concentrating your mind to only focus on the aspects that you need to be working on at that moment, to kind of rid yourself of distractions." said by Melissa Gray, a senior at the Culinary Institute of America.  You shouldn’t have any distractions around you.You could have mise-en-place anywhere home, work, and office.Orginazing is one way of mise-en-place works.In a kitchen you should have all your ingredients around you to use when needed.Being clean is another way of mise-en-place haveing clean knifes, cut boreds, and plates for you to put the next meal on.You could wokr fast but taking time would make the meal of youre making tatse a littole better to focus on the recipe you have . When you use mise-en-place you’ll be able to sit at home and enjoy your meal with your family.

Microwaving


Everyone now a day has a microwave in their kitchen.I for one do and I love it.You can microwave just about anything meats, rice, vegetables, an eggs.Studies show that cooking brocolie in a microwave is the way to holds its vitamin C, just make sure you use a microwave safe container when cooking.Microwaving foods is easy as pressing a button and it starts cooking your food right away.It starts cooking from the inside and then the outside.Using a microwave takes a shorten time to cook your meal which only minimus the desturction of nutrition.Also its less of a mess to clean then using a conventional oven,and you dont have to wait for it to preheat. Its good to heat up left overs from the night before and frozen dinners.So next time you want to cook but are to lazy to use the oven and dirty a pan think about your microwave.

Making Homemade delicious Brownies.


Today we are going to make Homemade Brownies. Let's get started with what you need to have first, You need to get started with having ½ c and 2 tbsp. of flour , 1/2 tsp. of baking powder, ½ tsp. of salt, ⅓ c of cocoa, and 1 c and 2 tbsp. of sugar yes that is a lot of sugar. To make these measurements correct I had to level it off with a knife you want to do this because you don't want to put too much or too little. Before you start anything wash your hands and preheat the oven to 350 degrees. You combine all of the flour, baking powder , and salt into a container we used a cup for this. The next layer you add is the cocoa and the sugar (Make sure to pack down after each layer you add before adding the next). After we put these items in the cup we put them in a mixing bowl. As I did that someone in my group melted 3 tsp. of butter in the microwave ( do this for 8 sec. per time) then cracked two eggs into a separate bowl to make sure there were no egg shells.We added the butter and eggs into the bowl and mixed it with a whisk. It gets pretty thick as your stirring and as you are its suppose to be liquidly but if some reason it looks dry add a little bit of water to it.Countine mixing for 2 mins.Then pour the brownie mix into the pan, make sure that it is even on each side. After you place the pan into the oven using a oven met you don't want to burn yourself place the pan on the lower rack. Cook the brownies for 20 mins. To pass the time away my group washed dishes that we had used. When the timer goes off check the brownies with a toothpick if it has nothing on it then it is done but if there is some batter on the toothpick the brownies are not done.Our brownies were not done we cooked them for about 5 more mins.After the 5 mins had passed we checked with the toothpick again they were finally done.I pulled them and  let the brownies cool before cutting them and eating.I let the brownies cool for about 3mins. then cut them into little squares and served them.They were so good i ate 4 of them.I hope this helps you make homemade brownies and your are as delicious as mine!

Nutrients

In the foods you eat daily there are tons of things hidden inside that's good for your body that helps it give energy and to work properly. Protein, Minerals, Vitamins, Fats, Carbohydrates ( carbs), and Water these are all Nutrients that can be foud in many foods.You always have to have these in your daily diet.To get the energy you need you could eat something with carbs. The carbs are carried through your body and made into glucose in the small intestine.Then your cells pick up the glucose for energy.You can find Carbs. in bread (whole grain), pasta, pies, beans, and skim milk.Vitamins and Minerals help your biological processes what does that mean you ask? well they help regulate your heartbeat, make new red blood cells, helps your food metabolism, and hormone production. You can find Vitamins and Minerals in many fruits, and vegetables.Fish and poultry is a good source for Minerals. Vitamins helps our organs function properly and give us enrgy.Water is something you need everyday you can find it in fruits or drink at least 8 cups a day.You can go weeks without food but ony days without water.Water helps regulate your body temperature, and keeps your body hydrated.Protein helps your body a lot starting with building tissue, your blood cells,muscels, bones and our brain all work together to keep you healthy.Amino acids are building blocks for protein.Food you can find protein in is eggs,meats, and vegatbles.Fats is something you need yes youve heard its bad for you but fats actaully help your body.It helps your cholestrole, organs, and cells.You can find fats in fried foods, meats, and nuts. You should always keep your body happy with the right nutrients from foods.
